In China, there has been a longstanding cultural expectation for sons and daughters to reside with their parents even after marriage. This traditional practice endured for over 2,000 years, resulting in parents making accommodations for their children within their homes. However, over the past two decades, this familial tradition has been influenced by the policy of reform and opening. As a result, fewer and fewer elderly individuals now live with their adult children. With the younger generation leaving home, it often leaves only the elderly occupying these spacious houses originally intended for larger family units.
